Post Game Blues, but with progress

Image
Do you ever get let down by gaming? I don't mean when your parents get divorced and you have a day to hang out with your dad and he flakes, but like when you go see a movie you've been wanting to see and it isn't as good as you wanted it to be. I felt that way about my last game. I lost, so I'll put that out there first. 18 to 14, but I don't think that was it. If I won, I am not sure if that would have been better. I think my disappointment is from playing they way that I want. I tried to make a beady-meta list and focus on winning, which I didn't, and I made mistakes that could have cost me the game. But, I digress, more on that later. Hobby progress: I am getting down to the line with my goal. I have the first 10 of 20 painted and I have most of the models based, but not finished. The flocking will go quick, but the next 10 in line will take awhile. I am super tired when I get home from work, but I have found that exercising helps with that. I ran on ...

Off weekend

So, I am still kinda filling my hobby goal. I have my first 10 boys almost painted fully, and have most of the basing models on the 35mm bases, but not flocked. I have been a bit distracted by my new big mek. I found 3D print of a model from the old game called Dawn of War. In that game the first tier hq unit was a Big Mek. When I found that 3D plan, I tried to contact a Russian company that originally showed it, but to no avail. I then found the plan for fee and posted in FB that, "if anyone had a 3D printer they could fulfill a dream of mine...." And a friend did, but it was not the best quality, so he actually got a new resin printer that would be able to make it. I gave him a black light and a rare bottle of beer for the model. It took awhile to fit and glue, there are some bad mold lines, and there is a lacking of smooth surfaces, but I am about half way done painting it. So, for goals, I should be pretty good for the month. Next month I may want to focus on vehicles. ...

Hobbying Goals and Games

Image
This month, March 2019, I will challenge myself to paint 20 boys, then re-base all the ones I have painted, which will be around 50. There I said it. Sometimes getting goals out of your head and into the world is helpful. With the limited amount of time I have to play and hobby this is a pretty lofty goal. Also, March is a long month, so I have an extra day that other months, just in case I need it. April will be a bit different as I’ll have spring break to work on stuff and play. As for the games I realized I have a small group of players, but only one table. The players are Me, Matrix, Jeep, and King. Matrix and I have played about three games, that were covered here. We have all played Kill Team, but Jeep and King have not played 40k in 8 th edition yet. So, I propose that they play and Matrix and I will cover them with help as needed. I’ll get to work on some miniatures and help the game, but not actually play. I think this is a pretty good way to get the community, al...

Blog On the eve of battle, and considerations of past battles

Image
The last few weeks have been a bit crazy with work schedules. As much, it takes away from gaming and hobby time. However, I did find time to get a game of kill team in and paint 10 boyz. 4v4 Kill Team I was able to convince my old time 40k player friends to play a game of Kill Team with my and my regular player buddy. We ended up playing a 4v4 (I was thinking of doing 2 2v2 games) where I played Orks, Matrix played Death Watch (for the first time), Jeep played Gray Knights, and King played Tau. Jeep ended up winning, I came in 2nd, King 3rd, and Matrix 4th. It all depended on the terrain. Matrix was in a horrible location, Jeep was in a great one. I ended up dividing up my fire between Matrix and King, which allowed Jeep to not lose a single model the whole game. Also, I did not know Gray nights have psychic powers and that killed my leader first turn.  For my list I played it the same as last time. I was thinking of taking out the ...

One Month in...

So after a weekend of great gaming on the 11th and 12 and two vigilus campaign games in I have only played one game... of kill team. That being said, I have done some hobby stuff, but alas, not much gaming. Hobby update: The Stompa factory is continuing. I am collecting and nesting more pieces and have a better understanding of what I want to build with it.  I have magnetized the arms, the choppa, shoota, and lifta-droppa arms, and the head...partially. So I am able to take it off the main pieces and leave the body as scenery.          The arms look great, but I messed up on the polarity of the magnets and I cannot have the shoota arm (upside down) and the lifta-droppa on the stompa at the same time. I am looking to add a base for it to sit in, like the earth was built up and around the stompa. Then add scaffolding around it. Finally have a built up structure to one side that will have the cranes on it with the different pieces of the sto...

The Sunday Round Up

Image
So, I was pretty excited about my games this week, and they were both really good. First, Friday game was at the local GW shop and part of the Vigilus escalation campaign. I was matched up with Iron Hands, but since the player was late, I played a willing Space Wolves (SW) player. The first round of the campaign was 500 points; this was my army: The game started a bit slow, but I wanted to get the boys stuck in so I raced Doomsbasha up as far as I could. The grots and the weirdboy were holding objectives. Using the battle wagon as a hand to hand monster was fun, but the next turn when the boys spilled out and the big mek, Rekksmasha, stayed in to use the Reder armor for mortal wounds. It worked well, killing all but one. The one SW turned into a lone wolf, but then died in combat with the boys. The SW leader got stuck in with the boys, and was taking his time to finish thim off, until there was down to two boys, a slugga and choppa and the mobs Bossmob with a power klaw....

It is 7:05 AM Friday Morning and I went to bed last night at 1:00. Today I will play in my first Escalation game at the local GW store. And tomorrow I will play maybe another Escalation game, but also a 2k game against my Knight friend here at home in the Scrap City. Hobby update : I am slowly rebasing miniatures as I use them. I am finding it easy to remove the base on most of the flat plastics. Some are slota-bases both plastic and metal. Those are easier to remove, but hard to glue back on the bases. Also, I got some paint on some boyz. I got 8 shootas, 1 tankbusta, 1 grot oiler, and my evil suns weird boy. This took me about 4 hours of painting to get them from black primer to painted, highlighted, washed, and flocked. I feel pretty accomplished. And I am looking forward to do more. Army list : So after getting smooshed by the Kinights last time, I am making a list that will hopefully do better, but it does rely on shooting. I have lots of command points and ...
