Hobbying Goals and Games
This month, March 2019, I will challenge myself to paint 20
boys, then re-base all the ones I have painted, which will be around 50.
There I said it. Sometimes getting goals out of your head
and into the world is helpful. With the limited amount of time I have to play
and hobby this is a pretty lofty goal. Also, March is a long month, so I have
an extra day that other months, just in case I need it. April will be a bit
different as I’ll have spring break to work on stuff and play.
As for the games I realized I have a small group of players,
but only one table. The players are Me, Matrix, Jeep, and King. Matrix and I
have played about three games, that were covered here. We have all played Kill
Team, but Jeep and King have not played 40k in 8th edition yet. So,
I propose that they play and Matrix and I will cover them with help as needed.
I’ll get to work on some miniatures and help the game, but not actually play. I
think this is a pretty good way to get the community, albeit small, interested
and playing, rather than monopolizing all the games myself. I’ll also, get to
know other 8th edition armies. Jeep plays Eldar (I haven’t fully gotten
into the whole Alderi thing) and King Plays Chaos, but not sure what faction he’ll
fall into, or go undivided. These are two armies that I’ll surely encounter in
a tournament. I look forward to watching games. There are always things I see watching
games that I don’t see when playing. Also, Matrix was a pretty meta player, so
I am looking forward to seeing what he does with 8th edition.
So, let me ask you some questions. Please respond below with
what you think.
- What do you do to promote the community you play with? I usually host and provide beer, as a home brewer I usually have something on tap.
- Do you just go and watch games? I try to play as much as I can, but I don’t mind watching games; it is just fun to hang out and talk shop about 40k
- Do you set hobby goals? If so do you have a sense of accomplishment when you complete them? I rarely set goals, but I want to in order to be more productive, so I start with this goal. I have painted 30 boyz for a tournament a while back and it was pretty cool, but I usually don’t get that feeling…
I play once a week with my roommate, and on Saturdays I spend about ten hours at the my FLGS playing 40k and hanging out with the local guys. I also TO our local tournament, as well as travel to neighboring towns for their events.
ReplyDeleteI definitely set hobby goals. I don't always achieve those goals, but just like in life, it's important to try, even if you might fail. Because not trying at all is worse than failure.
Jon, sounds like you are a lot more active than I am. There is a GW in my town and a pretty good FLGS, but with little ones at home it is hard to get out. Once my wife paused a game I was in to help the toddler in tje bathroom. Orks and potty training don't mix...Ha!
ReplyDeleteAldo you get bonus points for answering the questions!
First off...Eldar will NEVER be Alderi! Screw you GW and wanting to copyright words. ;)
ReplyDeleteNow on to the questions...
1. I have a gaming club that I host. I provide the tables, terrain, extra miniatures, and sodas. This is all free of charge for people.
2. I love to play. But, if there are an odd number of players on game day, I will sit out. I would rather have the people who travel be able to get a game in.
3. I don't really set hobby goals. I just do whatever I want. I have a lot of free time since all my kids are teenagers or older. I will put minis on my paint table just to paint them up. I don't have a need for them now, but maybe in the future.
