The Sunday Round Up

So, I was pretty excited about my games this week, and they were both really good.
First, Friday game was at the local GW shop and part of the Vigilus escalation campaign. I was matched up with Iron Hands, but since the player was late, I played a willing Space Wolves (SW) player. The first round of the campaign was 500 points; this was my army:

The game started a bit slow, but I wanted to get the boys stuck in so I raced Doomsbasha up as far as I could. The grots and the weirdboy were holding objectives. Using the battle wagon as a hand to hand monster was fun, but the next turn when the boys spilled out and the big mek, Rekksmasha, stayed in to use the Reder armor for mortal wounds. It worked well, killing all but one. The one SW turned into a lone wolf, but then died in combat with the boys. The SW leader got stuck in with the boys, and was taking his time to finish thim off, until there was down to two boys, a slugga and choppa and the mobs Bossmob with a power klaw. The SW leader was in term armor and did 2+ everything and re-rolled everything too, so he was knocking out 5-6 boys by himself. We rolled the regular boy first. He got two hits, and one wound, the with SW leader only have one wound left. If he failed he’d die, and I get Kill the Warlord, if he saved then it’d be on the boss nob with the power klaw to finish up…he failed the save and the regular slugga/choppa boy killed him!

That boy was Killa, now he is now named Wolfdedkilla and has been promoted to a bossnob.

On the other side of the field, some primaris wolves deep stiked (struck?) in and charged the weird boy and grots. They SW ended up killing them, but by the time they were done, the rest of the army was gone, and they charged the last two boys and killed them, only to have the Rekksmasha and Doombasha come in and squish them to table the other player.

It was acceptable losses, but I had 11 VP to his 4.

The grots saved the game with getting the VPs but the fun with Doombasha. MVP will go to Doombasha, ‘cause he was ded killy with 7 primaris SW and 5 Wolves.

The Saturday game was at my house in the garage. I set up the table as a Stompa building yard, with my stompa, with not arms or head on, and those as scenery. Pretty cool set up and I plan to build that up more.
My buddy and I decided to play the Vigilus escalation campaign using the same mission as I played Friday. We were going to play a 2k game, but he could not locate his Knight rule book. So being a Kinight player with Skitari, for the escalation he decided to play one knight. Wasn’t too keen on that, but he only had 3 CP to my 8.

The basics for the game was the Knight shooting, rolling pretty poorly, over-wacting even worse, but using those titanic feet to kill Doombasha, Rekksmasha and his boys, leaving me with grots in cover and Smotdruzz, the weirdboy. With a mix of shooting, physics, and fighting, I was able to bring the Knight down to 2 wounds. He kept using the strat that allows him to bring the Knight back to the highest tier of wounds. On the last turn Smootdruzz needed to roll a 5 to smite then a 2 or 3 for wounds. He rolled a 4, I used a CP to re-roll, and he rolled the same. Ugh. If I killed the knight I would have won! But I’ll take a 7-7 tie.

I was able to get objectives with the grots again, so they were pretty valuable. Shooting from a Knight was able to demolish Doombasha limiting his damage dealing ability. Rekksmasha was not able to use hi Reder armor, so that was a bust. The weird boy was able to get some smite damage in on the kinight, but not enough in the end. I think the MVP goes to the Grots for getting the VP for a tie.

Learning Curve.
In the Friday game I was playing a new (less than a year playing) but experienced 8th edition player. He was a great player. We were able to discuss and be friendly about the strategies of the game, giving each other advice, and reminding of different strats to use. This was good for me. I learned from him the difference between damage and wounds. It seems there are no wound pools anymore that spills damage over, except mortal wounds. That makes my army a bit more survivable against Knights. On the Saturday game I forgot about a psychic phase and lost out on doing a smite against the knight. Ha that rhymes! If I want to be a better player I need to get a rhythm of play that allows me not to forget simple things like that. Anyway for the weekend, I was 1-1-0 with my escalation army. Next, I ought to figure out the 1k list for the campaign.
