The Tournament is next weekend...

Image
and I am not ready. As a matter of fact, I am not going. After careful planning and logistics, I found out that the weekend of the tournament is Father's day. I really have two goals in lif currently, one is be a better father, and be a better professional in my job. So, I am not attending the tournament. I hit up the organizers and since they are a game store, they gave me store credit. So, next time I am in Vegas I'll have a $85 credit to get some stuff. Cool. As for hobby progress, I have done nothing. I have looked at things, planned to do things, but really nothing. I clogged Matrix's airbrush, then cleaned it and it should be working, but I just tested it on water. I cleaned and organized some stuff in the game garage. Nothing else. Since the start of this blog, this is the nadir of my hobbying. I blame a few things, busy with other things, playing games instead of hobbying, and work has been tiring me out. Oh, wait I did cut up a plasti-card (a for sale sign from...

Tournament what...?

Image
Games played So, I have realized that the last 6 games I've played, I lost. To recap, game 1, 500 points against Matrix (and his one knight) I lost by a point and 1 wound. Game 2, full 2k against Matrix and his Death Watch (DW), Lost by not playing for objectives and realizing the glass hammer of Orks. Game 3, Matrix again, but optimized to kill knights, I lost by him killing me, duh... this game I played a list I didn't like. Game 4, against King and lost because I charged Berserkers and could not use unstoppable green tide. Game 5, was a Kill Team game against Jeep, where I charge a Thunder Hammer wielding Gray Knight with my Tyranid Warrior Leader and lost, because he had hammer of wrath. For the 6th game I am just predicting a loss, as I have not played it yet, but will do so in grand fashion I am sure.  Here the moment where I rage quit the game I've played for 3 decades, sell off all my stuff and take up knitting, but alas, I will not, can not and must not. I am...

Smotdruzz Part I

Image
Here is a little story that I've been putting together for my Orks based on the Vigilus campaign my local store started when the first book came out. Smotdruzz surveyed the desert wastes of this new planet from high atop his tower. Up here he could escape the buzz of the boyz and he could think. Escape all the boys except one, this Rekksmasha was up to no good trying to get him to help his boys. He knew this upstart mek from the days when he drove a buggy at the Big Toof River. Smotdruzz reminisced about seeing all those buggies, the plumes of smoke and the spray of water as they drove through the river and Rekksmasha in the middle of it all, gunning for that ‘uge tank, what did the ‘umies call it, baneblade, and taking out the front corner track.  As Smotdruzz thought longer he was soon floating about 2 feet above the ground. Thinking of all the destruction and the massacre of all those ‘umies in those red uniforms got him worked up. So worked up that he was not aware...

Long and Awaited Games

Image
Its been a bit, but there is lots to write/read about. First Hobby progress I still have not reached my March goals. I finished painting the orks, but I have yet to flock them. I might just need to sit down and put some rocks on there. However, I did have my spring break and I made more goals that I kind of finished. April is a four part goal. 1. put together my storm boys and bikers. 2. build the preliminary weirdboy tower. 3. prime and prep the scenery I have. 4. start inventory for my orks. Of that I have put together the storm boys, did the preliminary weirdboy tower, I primed the ork drop terrain along with the larger pieces of foam building I have, and started to figure out the inventory list, but I may need to start that from scratch. So, this is what I plan to finish by the end of April: 1. flock the painted models 2. prime all scenery to put together 3. figure out the inventory for my orks Preliminary Weirdboy Tower May, will be a bunch of painting fo...

Post Game Blues, but with progress

Image
Do you ever get let down by gaming? I don't mean when your parents get divorced and you have a day to hang out with your dad and he flakes, but like when you go see a movie you've been wanting to see and it isn't as good as you wanted it to be. I felt that way about my last game. I lost, so I'll put that out there first. 18 to 14, but I don't think that was it. If I won, I am not sure if that would have been better. I think my disappointment is from playing they way that I want. I tried to make a beady-meta list and focus on winning, which I didn't, and I made mistakes that could have cost me the game. But, I digress, more on that later. Hobby progress: I am getting down to the line with my goal. I have the first 10 of 20 painted and I have most of the models based, but not finished. The flocking will go quick, but the next 10 in line will take awhile. I am super tired when I get home from work, but I have found that exercising helps with that. I ran on ...

Off weekend

Image
So, I am still kinda filling my hobby goal. I have my first 10 boys almost painted fully, and have most of the basing models on the 35mm bases, but not flocked. I have been a bit distracted by my new big mek. I found 3D print of a model from the old game called Dawn of War. In that game the first tier hq unit was a Big Mek. When I found that 3D plan, I tried to contact a Russian company that originally showed it, but to no avail. I then found the plan for fee and posted in FB that, "if anyone had a 3D printer they could fulfill a dream of mine...." And a friend did, but it was not the best quality, so he actually got a new resin printer that would be able to make it. I gave him a black light and a rare bottle of beer for the model. It took awhile to fit and glue, there are some bad mold lines, and there is a lacking of smooth surfaces, but I am about half way done painting it. So, for goals, I should be pretty good for the month. Next month I may want to focus on vehicles. ...

Hobbying Goals and Games

Image
This month, March 2019, I will challenge myself to paint 20 boys, then re-base all the ones I have painted, which will be around 50. There I said it. Sometimes getting goals out of your head and into the world is helpful. With the limited amount of time I have to play and hobby this is a pretty lofty goal. Also, March is a long month, so I have an extra day that other months, just in case I need it. April will be a bit different as I’ll have spring break to work on stuff and play. As for the games I realized I have a small group of players, but only one table. The players are Me, Matrix, Jeep, and King. Matrix and I have played about three games, that were covered here. We have all played Kill Team, but Jeep and King have not played 40k in 8 th edition yet. So, I propose that they play and Matrix and I will cover them with help as needed. I’ll get to work on some miniatures and help the game, but not actually play. I think this is a pretty good way to get the community, al...
