Long and Awaited Games
Its been a bit, but there is lots to write/read about.
First Hobby progress
I still have not reached my March goals. I finished painting the orks, but I have yet to flock them. I might just need to sit down and put some rocks on there. However, I did have my spring break and I made more goals that I kind of finished. April is a four part goal. 1. put together my storm boys and bikers. 2. build the preliminary weirdboy tower. 3. prime and prep the scenery I have. 4. start inventory for my orks. Of that I have put together the storm boys, did the preliminary weirdboy tower, I primed the ork drop terrain along with the larger pieces of foam building I have, and started to figure out the inventory list, but I may need to start that from scratch. So, this is what I plan to finish by the end of April:
1. flock the painted models
2. prime all scenery to put together
3. figure out the inventory for my orks

Preliminary Weirdboy Tower |
May, will be a bunch of painting for me, so I really want to have this stuff done.
Next games played.
I started a game of 40k with King The Bucket Breaker, but got to the end of turn 1 by 11:45PM. So we paused the game as there were so many things both of us wanted to do. More about the game later.

During the paused week, Chaos Kitty checked out the orks. |
The reason only one round was done is because I had returned from Vegas few hours before my the crew came over, so I was unprepared. While in Vegas, I did play a good few games of Kil Teams with Mortuus, a good buddy from many moons ago. Kill Team was easy enough for him to play with the minis he had and I brought two army's with me. He had gray knight justicars and I had my ork KT and some Nids that I have had since 5th. After figuring out the army builder and the rules for his army the first game was just to roll dice and figure the rules. We played on a blank slate table (no scenery, see below). Shooting moving and barely assaulting,(my frienzied ork burna was killed in overwatch). We got it figured out. Then we took a break and then sat down and played a real game. The scenario was Ambush and I played my nids, we played with the scouting special rules. I ended up winning as Mortuus thought he could shoot and smite me off the board. He did not, and was only half way to the board edge before the game ended.

Chaos Space Marine Deployment |
For the game that was started and paused; the one turn I played with King was a learning game for both of us. King had not played in many years, except the 1k game against Jeep, but that was just to get feet wet. It was learning for me too as I have not played Chaos Space Marines (CSM) in 8th edition yet. We rolled up the ITC mission Precious Cargo and started to set up. It was the diagonal deployment and the scenery was set up well.

Ork Deployment |
He got first turn, and being a Khorne player, there was not much damage from shooting and not being very fast he did not charge, so it went to my turn. This is where I had some fun. I mob up some boys and Da Jumped them to his back line to take out his predator. Then I Da Jumped my other mob of boys to the other side of the board and got stuck in with his fleshhounds and raptors. I moved the storm boys from their trukk and moved them 15 inches then charged into a unit of blood letters. This was all great! Until he attacked back.

Mob of 30 boys dropping in and charging first turn! |
The berserkers are scary, with attacking twice. Thankfully he had small units and got only 15 attacks in. We had to stop the game there at is was too late to start the second turn. Counted just the primary Victory Points (vp): I had 4 her had 2. We continued the following Saturday, kinda. I was brewing beer on Saturday (possibly another blog about beer) and there is some down time with this, so we were able to roll dice. We finished the second turn. This turn he made all of his charges. I use mini white boards to to track things like my Command Points (CP) and my VP. We had to use a white board to keep track of his charges. I believe there was 13 separate charges. I explained his the Counter Strike Strat and we had to go through all the attacks that did not charge first, then the one that he did, and I counter striked with the mobbed up mob of 40 boys, killing a hand full of other stuff. Some of his charges were great, others were just about useless. His commander on a jugger charged a trukk and only did one wound. But his blood thirster charged my second unit of storm boys and wiped them out from morale. By the end of round two, were were tied at 6 VP each. We will continue this game on Friday night and hopefully finish it.
Ponderings
1. As a host of games sometimes I don't consider what I am asking my friends to come over and play. This has always been the same for me; I was the host. I like the roll. I like providing a space and company to play these games. If I have time and motivation, I like cooking too. However, my friends need to gather all their things: armies, rule books, dice, and other stuff and lug it to my house. For my bachelor friends, that is considerable. For my friends that have families at home this is considerably harder. So, I need to be gracious and thankful to my friends that take and make the time to create game nights. This really isn't a pondering, but more of a realization.
2. Being a Marine, I have been through some tough times. This hobby has been an outlet for me to focus on one thing and let other things fly by. Also, as a Marine, there are time of extreme business separated by extreme boredom. Those boredom times allowed me to take deep dives into the hobby. That was how I finished my winged hive tyrant (before there was a model in the 3rd wave of Nids) and it took two days about 12 each day to make him. If I compare that to my life now, I would not be able to devote that amount of time nor would I want to, to the hobby. So here is the pondering. The moments, sometimes less that 20 minutes a week, and if I plan it, an hour or two a week, that I have to do the hobby side of the game, are they as valuable as the long hauls I used to do? Can I feed my desire to hobby in short moments, or do I tamper my desire to find fulfillment in those short moments?
