Four Weeks: 44 models
Ok, so I found another tournament to play in. It is closer and cheaper, so that is a win. I figured out my tourney army, but still need to play it more. The tournament is full ITC load out, including a chess clock set up. it is the
Things I am worried about:
1. Getting my army painted. This is a dozy as my army is approaching 125 models.
2. Transporting my army. Since I have games at my house, I don't move them much, so I am not used to it.
3. Chess clock. I am lucky if I can get a game done in less that four hours, much less three, and I am usually not very lucky.
First, I have the summer off and I am trying to paint about five days a week. I am actually getting in to it a bit. I try to do the drudgery work, like painting shoota and storm boys with the fun stuff like painting the battle wagons or the jets. Also, I am trying out new stuff with the airbrush. For the storm boys I primed black, did a zenithal with white, then sprayed it all with a red ink.
This is the thing with him now, I've reached my painting limit, I think. He looks pretty cool, a bit grungy but still absolutely red, which matches the army, but I am not sure what else I can do. I think I am good with this.
GAMES PLAYED:
I got one game in and I won. What? Yes, I won. I was losing the entire game and by the last two turns, we called it at 5 turns, I started to take the lead. Matrix was playing Death watch and IG, me with my Ork Tourny list. It was the first ITC mission with secondaries. I almost maxed out the secondary missions, and did decent on the primary. He left his deployment open and I Da Jumped 30 boys turn one (I got first turn since I actually had less drops than he did, and I rolled higher) that really messed him up. I targeted his Deredeo Dreadnaught and it took a couple of wounds, but survived. It did distract him enough that I was able to advance on him and start controlling the board. By second turn I got my teleporta battlewagon in and started to mess things up a bunch! By the end, he had his contemptor drednaught and a squad of Death watch boys left. It was a glorious win.
From that one win, I felt really good. I felt I have come into these 8th edition orks with purpose and understanding, and it finally worked out for me. yeah.

They look pretty amazing, but almost too good, you know. It really does not match the rest of the army. I kinda knew this would happen, but the storm boys are different enough from the rest of the army, I feel all right about it.
Second, Transporting my army. I have an old Army Transporter from Sabol Design, but since I switched over to the 32mm bases, the models don't fit. My buddy Matrix has a Battlefoam box, and I really like it. So, from the other tournament that I didn't get to, I had store credit, so I picked up a nice Battle Foam Box 720. I was unpacking it from the car and waived it to my neighbor, who is law enforcement and a Marine, like me, and he thought it was a gun case... Here's the sad part, I might not fit my tournament army. I need to pluck some more, but I know the jets are not going in that case.
Third, I really have no idea about the chess clock. I am getting better at knowing my army, I made a cheat sheet for profiles, I need to do the same for weapons too. I am also betting the Huffinator to 3D print me up some movement trays. This should all help, but I think in a tournament environment with a time limit, the time for bull shitting and distractions will be null. I play with friends I've know for 15+ years. It is more of a hang out than playing games sometimes, which is perfect, but not tournament play. This has got me a bit worried that I won't like the tournament scene, which is fine as well, but I am going to try this to the fullest extent.
Besides the regular hobby progress and tournament concerns, I have finished my Big Mek in Redder Armor. I primed him white, brushed with gold, sprayed with red ink, for a super bright red, then dulled it a bit with nulin oil, then highlighted up with reds and oranges.
