My ascension to becoming a god (lower case "g") has started. I now have a follower.

So starting from last week to now: I finished my student teaching, which is nice. I got hired at the school district to substitute teach. I also am in the process of getting hired at a tutoring center where I'll be an independent contractor, they will give me students and I will go to their house to tutor them. I also am going to work at Bootleggers Brewery, doing some work to help out the master brewer. Speaking of beer:

Saturday January 24th, was the second anniversery of Sky Scrapper Brewing Company in El Monte. I had previously met Phil and his wonder wife (sorry I forgot your name) at the Mammoth Festival of Beer and Bluesapalooza, where Bootleggers set up their table across from theirs. Cara, Danny and I showed up about a half an hour after it started and there were already about 30 folks there. We paid our $10 and got a cup. The event was running smoothly with music for a decent PA system, catering my Nathan's Hot Dogs and fills of Bulldozer Honeyweizen, Lug Nut Lager, Power Tool Pilsner, and both the 2008 and 2007 Winter Warmer. Also, at the event was a representative of LA Burlesque pouring the samples. This made up beauty had a much longer line as the men all wanted to chat with her. That added a bit more depth to the entire event. It was beer, food, (no games, but gamers as you'll read later) and models. There seemed to be a good following of folks that liked the brewery and were having fun. Phil was running around like a 4 year old at a birthday party, playfully chatting it up with the patrons and brewers. I noticed that his sons were having about as good time as he was, especially after a hard day of work:
Not breaking any child labor laws, Phil and his son had a good time at the 2nd Anniversary of Scyscraper Brewing Company. As we settle in with our beer and got some food, (the bacon wrapped hot dog with onions and peppers was awesome)

we were approached by a fellow drinker of beer by the name of Manny.

We started talking about beer, and after a while he mentioned something about a level 17 paladin with holy armor, which in gamer speak is a really mighty character. He turned out to be an avid gamer and we talked about Warhammer and 40K. Also, he and his buddies were in a comedy team that played at some place in Uptown Whittier and he host the Guitar Hero night at Azteca's on Wednesday nights. I had recently been to Azteca's for a friends birthday and karaoke. We had to leave to find more beer at a better location, but before I tell what happened next, let's talk about Skyscraper Beer.

As I was not in the mode of truly appreciating the beers I am not about to give a full account of the quality and fineries of of the lagers themselves. However, the over all consensus was that Phill is holding back. The beer he is making is good, drink-able (like like the Marco merican lager ad campaign) and well liked by all. With that is seems that there is greater potential. Not knowing the history of where Phill is coming from, it is hard to say where he is going, but having a full production brewery it seems he can make a beer that is worthy of southern California. The hop head in me wants an IPA, all the beers were lagers, and the beer geek in me wants something I have not had before, like some crazy stout or an amazing Mai-bock. Instead I got good, regular, drink-able beer.

As we left Scyscraper, we went to our local water hole, Taps in Brea. Once there I had a nice chat with Victor Novak, the master brewer. He was walking around the bar and I, feeling really good from the samples in El Monte, got his attention as if I knew him. He played it off as well, like he knew me, and we talked about beer. He comes from the east cost and when I mentioned how much I liked the IPA on tap, he said that he had to change the recipe to make it more suitable for us west coast hop heads. That is the west side represented in beer, word! At Taps we meet another fella and his crew that were at the Skyscraper tasting. George and his girl Patty, they home brewed and were beer geeks just the same. Good and cool people all around.

After two beers at Taps, I went home and went to sleep. It was 4:30ish, so I figured I would lay down and take a short nap. The beer that was in me and the way my body felt, I ended up sleeping till 11:00. I was supposed to go to my brothers and play poker, he was have a house warming party. I woke with 5 text messages, 6 missed calls, and 3 voice messages. My phone vibrated so much that it fell off my desk. So, as the name of the blog implies, I had all ready drank, and ate, now I needed to play games. I ended up going to my brothers and playing poker. It was great. I made his girlfriend, Karen, go all in I with a pair of Queens and her with pocket aces. I ended up getting 4 Queens total! I doubled up and walked away $48 when I bought in for $20!

That is all for now, what say you?
