Big day

My wonderful girlfriend and I went to have an early morning, 6:15 AM, breakfast this morning. I had a breakfast sandwich, egg, ham, cheese. We also planned out the day. I will look for jobs, she watch TV and then we will go to the 2nd anniversary of Sky Scraper Brewery in L.A. I will post again, with pictures, of that event!

Also, The Siebel institute is having a give away for a beer course. This is big serious stuff. The Seibel Institute seems to be the premier brewing education location. Draft magazine is giving way a two courses. It is a written entry form of 250 words or less. I am doing it! Here is my small essay:

I want to win this contest because I am a life long learner. I am a teacher of English and I will never stop learning. I am also a home brewer, with about 20 batches under my belt. I want to win this contest to simply learn more.

With teaching I have found the best way to learn something is to teach it and share it. What is better in life than to share beer? I have reached a plateau in my brewing career, where I need to continue to make mediocre beer, or step up to a serious all grain system simply to share a better beer. These two courses will help me recognize what beer is out there and allow me to better understand the final process of brewing good beer.

As John Donne said “No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main…” My knowledge and passion for beer cannot stay with me. I must share it and ignite passion in others. By winning this contest it will give me better power to share beer with others. So you see I am not doing this for myself, but for the community of beer drinkers and the initiates waiting to be inducted to the passion of geed beer. I have the motivation and enthusiasm, I just need the knowledge.

Lock Down Hobby Time #1 Road Bases in 10 easy steps!

So during lock down, I have been able to get some painting time. Through the miracle of not commuting 2 hours a day and nap time for my children, I can get a good 1 -3 hours a day about 4 days a week to paint and hobby. I have finished up painting most of the Speed Freeks, or at least the ones I use in games on the regular, so when it came time to base them I wanted to base them the same as my bikers: Cork, dashed road lines, and nothing fancy. So I started with the stencil I’d use to make the dashed lines. The biker bases I free handed the lines, and that was a pain being about 5 minutes per base, it took too long. Tournament what...?

Games played So, I have realized that the last 6 games I've played, I lost. To recap, game 1, 500 points against Matrix (and his one knight) I lost by a point and 1 wound. Game 2, full 2k against Matrix and his Death Watch (DW), Lost by not playing for objectives and realizing the glass hammer of Orks. Game 3, Matrix again, but optimized to kill knights, I lost by him killing me, duh... this game I played a list I didn't like. Game 4, against King and lost because I charged Berserkers and could not use unstoppable green tide. Game 5, was a Kill Team game against Jeep, where I charge a Thunder Hammer wielding Gray Knight with my Tyranid Warrior Leader and lost, because he had hammer of wrath. Korean Food

So, I am totally hyped about this Kogi Taco Truck thing that is happening here in LA. The idea that you can get really good food from a truck is awesome. I also like the attitude of the folks that are putting it on. This has inspired me to make Kimchi, but I am looking for Korean chili powder. That is not at my Stater Bro.s or F&E, I might have to make a trip to Ranch 99. Waa hoooo! More about the Kogi Taco Truck here . There is a really funny "Random Video Post of the week" about tricking little Japanese kids into fighting a Zombie! On the Beer front, the Kettles are in and have been used. The biggest problem with them is they are big. We only used one, but Roommate made a double batch called Gascan IPA (the first letter of each hop used in the recipe spelled out G.A.S.C.A.N.)
